Congratulations! You’re publishing a monthly or quarterly newsletter. Now just how many people are actually opening it or reading it? Declining email open rates among your subscribers will hurt the effectiveness of your marketing campaign.
Let’s take a look at one of the biggest obstacles to geting your email opened: the subject line.
When you receive an email in your inbox, you look at two things before you open it: who sent it and what the subject line says.
The subject line can mean the difference between an opened message or one that is deleted. Keep it simple. Be consistent. Find a format that works and stick with it. You may want to start every subject line with a portion of the same title. Below are some helpful hints to get your spa marketing communications opened.
State a specific benefit - let the recipient know how your offer or content will save her money, time, or otherwise improve her life. Be sure that each and every spa marketing campaign answers the question, “What’s in it for me?”
Put numbers in the subject line such as: "10 Tips for Beautiful Skin"
Experiment with subject lines: don’t become complacent. Experiment with different subject lines each month.
Test subject lines with Google AdWords: for pennies (or $’s) a day, you can test the response for various subject lines before sending your mailing.
Ask a question in the subject line.
Use an intriguing fact or juicy piece of news.
Keep it relevant to your audience.
Keep it short - 30 and 40 characters including spaces!
Make it Urgent. Give the recipient a reason to open the email right away, such as a limited time offer.
DON'T USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
Proofread. Use spell check and have someone proofread as well. Your credibility is undermined by incorrect grammar or misspelled words.
The "From" line is all about getting recipients past that first critical step to email success: the open. It MUST include your spa name to help cement your brand value to the customer.
"From" line has two parts: The "From Name and the "From Address" such "yourname@dayspa.com."
Your recipients may see just the From Name, just the From Address, or both depending on their email client or reader.
